    Default Coast guard rescues

Wow those people are lucky! 27 miles out at sea, they should thank their lucky stars.

Good samaritan rescue of 2 from fishing boat off Manasquan Inlet
    STAFF REPORT • September 8, 2009

What the U.S. Coast Guard described as a Good Samaritan rescue, two people were safely brought to shore after they called for help when the 59-foot boat they were on was taking on water 27 miles east of Manasquan Inlet Tuesday.

The Coast Guard said in a prepared release that it overheard a distress call between the crew of fishing boat Lady M and an unknown commercial provider reporting they were taking on water and listing.
The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched Coast Guard rescue crews to assist.
Rescue boat crews from Coast Guard stations in Point Pleasant Beach and Barnegat Light, and an aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station in Atlantic City were dispatched.
The crew of the Atlantic Traveler responded to the broadcast and recovered both people from a life raft they got into after they abandoned the Lady M, capsized and sank in 276 feet of water, the release said.
The crew of the Atlantic Traveler took the two people to Point Pleasant Beach. No injuries were reported, the Coast Guard said.

I listened to the whole thing on the radio, she sank with 600 gallons of fuel.

Pay attention to what history has taught us or be prepared to relive it again

600 gallons? That can do a lot of damage. I know there were environmental groups that stopped the subway cars from being sunk because they contained a small amound of asbestos that "might" someday deteriorate. Fuel is a lot worse than asbestos because it can travel. What do they do in a situation like that, just leave on the bottom?

The latest from cape may. CG press release.

The Coast Guard assisted the crew of a fishing boat taking on water Wednesday 80 miles east of Cape May, New Jersey. Watchstanders from the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay command center received notification Wednesday at 5:35 a.m. by a good Samaritan that the 77-foot fishing vessel Golden Nugget, homeported in Cape May, was taking on water. The Golden Nugget used an electronic position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) to report their distress.

The Coast Guard launched multiple assets in an effort to aid the vessel in distress, including: MH-65 dolphin helicopter crews from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, A C-130 Hercules crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, The crew of the Cape May-based Coast Guard Cutter Mako.
Coast Guard helicopter crews transferred a dewatering pump to crew members aboard the fishing vessel, and flooding was contained.
The crew of the Mako assisted while Coast Guard aircrews remained on scene to monitor the situation. No injuries or pollution have been reported.

Hey justsalt welcome aboard. I saw you asked what is wrong with this thread. I fish mostly cape may and atlantic county. sometimes I make it up to lbi when the fishing sucks here. It's customary for new members to post a joke, so where's yours?

Shack nasties and the boogey man. I don't want to get into any drama but do enjoy the different things posted. A successful rescue is better than recovering dead bodies. Some people are just not nice. my .02

Don't understand why anyone would slam them either. Yep we all owe the CG for the risks. Amazing work they do. This just happened in Rockaways. They went to help the Carolina Queen III and got in trouble themselves. wish4fish please thank your cousin for his service.

Some not too intelligent boat owners out there. Recent rescues. This one was Nov 19 off of Keyport. Winds were 40mph that day.

Another one Nov 17. They released a video with the report, looks like they got stranded by the old submerged pier sticks just outside of Highlands marina.
