Default Shark River Surf Anglers (SRSA)

This is a dedicated group of folks who love to fish. They sponsor many events, give to charitable causes, and are involved in promoting and preserving striped bass. Among their ranks are some very talented anglers, as well as many folks just wanting to learn more.

Anyone who fishes the Belmar, NJ area and wants to learn more about Shark River and fishing the productive ocean spots in that area, feel free to look at the Shark River club site.

    A little background info:

The Shark River Surf Anglers are pleased to welcome you to our new home on the world wide web! Based in Belmar, NJ, SRSA is a saltwater fishing club dedicated to the pursuit of striped bass and good times! A fully insured, not-for-profit organization, we have enjoyed tremendous success the past few years and have emerged as one of the premier fishing clubs along the Jersey Coast. If you want to learn more about fishing, make some great friends, and have lots of fun, you've come to the right place!
Although our primary focus is always on fishing, the club has a lot more to offer. We hold a variety of great activities throughout the year...here's a quick tour of the annual calendar:
    • We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 8pm at the Taylor Pavillion on Ocean Avenue (between 5th and 6th Avenue) in Belmar, except during JULY and AUGUST and on months that a tournament weekend follows the second Thursday, then the meeting is on the second Wednesday of that month. Club business and activities are the primary focus, but we always take the time to socialize and discuss the latest fishing information.
    • The year begins with our annual Awards Banquet in March. A gala affair with fine dining and camaraderie, it is our time to recognize and celebrate the previous year's fishing acheivements. Trophies are presented for the best catches, and our Top Gun and High Five winners are recognized. Not to be missed!
    • Each Spring we hold a Kids Trout Tournament on opening day of NJ trout season. With help from local businesses and independent sponsors, we stock over 500 trophy size Rainbow, Golden and Tiger Trout in Spring Lake, NJ. On the day of the contest, we award prizes to all children (15 and under) who catch a fish, with an outstanding grand prize awarded for the biggest catch.
    • During the Summer, we take a family fishing trip aboard a local party boat. What better way to spend a summer evening than catching fish with family and friends... the kids have a blast! At the end of the summer, we also gather in Lakewood for a family style picnic at a Blue Claws Game.
    • Near the end of the Summer, we have our annual Club Picnic at the Oak Tree Lodge...a day filled with fun and entertainment for the whole family. Mini-golf, clowns, face painting, swimming, horseshoes, chinese auction...and of course, food...LOTS of great food. It gets better every year.
    • In late September, we sponsor a camping trip to Montauk, NY for four days of surf fishing. We reserve a group of rooms at a couple of local motels and enjoy the kind of comraderie and Striped Bass fishing that has made Montauk famous.
    • Each December, we enjoy a Holiday Celebration open to members and their families at the Taylor Pavillion. Attendees enjoy an informal buffet dinner with food prepared and contributed by club members. This is a great way to end the year!
    • Each year, we participate in the invitational club tournament season, where each contest is sponsored by a surf club along the New Jersey shore. In each event, the club weighing in with the most overall pounds according to tournament guidelines is deemed the winner. A scoring system allows clubs to earn points based on how they place in each contest. At the end of the season, the club with the most points is the winner. In 2000, SRSA won for the very first time, and we have won first place every year since, with a tie for first in 2002.
    • Beyond these scheduled activities, we always try to keep up with conservation issues and organize support for rallies and legislative bills. If it affects us and New Jersey fishing, we are concerned about it.
We think you will find SRSA to be a group of extremely talented and knowledgeable fishermen, who are eager to share and educate. We are always looking for new members...just stop by our next meeting! Hope to see you there!
