Default Big Brown swans in somoco!

Pebbles and I were driving around today in somoco, scouting for Spring fishing locations, and in general looking to get out of the house. We had a serious case of cabin fever, and just needed to be out there.

Lo and behold, Pebbles spied an ostrich farm.
Of course we hadda take some pics.

These are dedicated to that grouchy basstard finchaser.

    First swans
    then gulls
    then plovers
    Now ostrich

Dark is the true bird man uses the excuse he's looking for spring spots to fish. I have been fishing over 50 years and have yet to come across an ostrich near any of my spots.

Leave the birds alone spring is near and I'd bet you did zero maintance on your tackle, but at least you are fine tuning your bird skills.

Pay attention to what history has taught us or be prepared to relive it again

Steve, those ostriches were in the shark river area, a few miles up the road from Fin's neck of the woods. I knew when we spotted them we hadda stop and take a few shots.

Pulleasse! Dark is the only one on this site actively seeking birds, finchaser is spot on. Though I did take the kids to the Navesink to see the swans when he first posted.
Bird man bird man up in the sky,
bird man bird man he wants to fly.
The Obama story was a good one, I have to admit. Not every day you get to see birds crap on Obama's head.

    Feeding Bald Eagles...

This is amazing ... the most beautiful bird being fed by man!

In January the weather was so cold that the bald eagles were cruising over our houses looking for helpless cats to make a quick meal.
Some kind souls decided to feed the eagles down at Goose Spit so they would survive the cold spell. Here's what happened!
A former teaching colleague took these photos in front of his home. They are incredible!

A beautiful early morning to feed the eagles. Jan.2009

No zoom! I was this close!

Here are the men that were feeding them that Jan '09 morning....
look how the eagles just sit there fed and content, so close to them!
    now thats cool as h-ll

^^^Yeah for once in the history of the site, dark actually posted some cool bird pics. I thought the buzzards in Pa were ok too, the rest of these are probably just a subtle plot to get us to join PETA.

He called me last week to let me know swans were in the back of BB.

    2. Angelo called me yesterday to let me know that the swans are back in the Navesink by the Oceanic Bridge, about 40 of them. And he also said there were about 200 of the winter ducks, the black and white ones.

    3. And today Speedy was out scouting, and sent me this swan pic.....

Ducks and swans - dark I took the family to see them yesterday. We brought some bread and fed them. The ducks I think were broadbills, there were hundreds of them, and about 50 swans. Thanks!
As to that ugly thing that speedy took a pic of, it doesn't look like a swan to me. More like a big ugly swan or ostrich! I think you would need a lot of bbq sauce to make that taste good.

    Default Penguins for Dark Skies

    I never knew this.

    Penguins

Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins

On the ice in Antarctica - where do they go ?

    Wonder no more ! ! !

It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic

Bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life.

The penguin is very committed to its family and will

Mate for life, as well as maintaining a form of

Compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life.

If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other

Members of the family and social circle have been

Known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial

Wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for

The dead bird to be rolled into and buried.

The male penguins then gather in a circle

Around the fresh grave and sing:

    "Freeze a jolly good fellow"

    "Freeze a jolly good fellow."

"Then they kick him in the ice hole."

You really didn't believe that I know anything about penguins, did you?

I don't see anything there about how after he's buried in the ice, the other penguins go to the local Anarctica deli and get some FRESH pork roll sammiches to eat in his honor.

Or they went to Asbury park, found Speedy's lathe , and spent the afternoon with BIG WOOD.

Or they went up to LI, dragged Surfstix out of his house, and took him to the go-go bar. . And picked up Monty and his cats to give the dancers the seal of approval....
On the way into the club, they saw Dogfish and Mick2360 coming back from a codfish trip smelling like cod, and Jonthepain coming back from a hunting trip, with Wile E Coyote strapped to his front bumper. They all went inside, proceeded to show the dancers their BIG WOOD, and then had a blast talking about big fish stories and the one that got away.

After the refreshing time ogling the strippers and the g-strings.....the mooks above ran into Rich Swiss at the back of RB. They called Killie and asked him to come down, but he said "dont bother calling me unless you're catching 20#ers!".

They then decided to all go down to SH (except for Killie ) did the long walk death march, (with Bababooey and Storminsteve following close behind with their notebooks and GPS plotters) and looked and looked for some fish, only to find none....the only souls on the beach was Wish4fish and GJB, throwing clams and bunker in the dirty cold water.... catching skate after skate...

After seeing all this effort for nothing!!!!! their exalted leader the Grouchy Basstard, said: " I can't believe you guys really fish here, ain't worth the walk, you guys are out of your minds to take this walk, the fishin really suxx up here.....

But they all had a good time, and on the walk home ran into the OldFartsFishinClub and Surfwalker, trying to avoid the internet fishing hordes...

And....on the walk home the 2 newest of the Penguin Phishing team, Rip and Cardoc, kept falling over the same log, prompting the Old Grouchy one to say: " Hey have you guys been drinking or are you just 2 goofy googans....in my day when we came across stumps, we jumped over them like they were hurdles..... And when we caught a big fish, we didn't need to parade it

    all around the internet either!!!!

    To be continued.......

You're slackin off there, Old Grouchy.
