    Default VStaal

What is all the hype about a Van Stall reel? Is there that much difference between that and a Dawai or a Shimano?

They are submersible/ waterproof can be dunked or swam with. Zeebass also has a submersible/ waterproof reel. Diawa and Shimano don't make a submersible reel. Penn will have one in June.

Pay attention to what history has taught us or be prepared to relive it again

VS and Zee Baas reels are machined not cast. the bodies are totally waterproof as well as the drags over sized gearing etc etc. The Stella is comparable but not dunkable like the VS and The Z.

There is a story about a guy that lost his set up when he got knocked off a rock or capsized a boat or something like that? Anyways to make a long story short a diver found the set up and sent the reel to Van Staal because he knew they registered serial numbers. The reel had been in the water over the winter or longer and the guy got his reel back from VS and could fish with it!

Mark, that guy you are talking about is Larry Welcome from Northbar Lures.

I would like to dispute the whole "waterproof drag" system in the Zeebaas.

I wish I could afford a VS. They're a great reel but way to much $$ for me right now.

That was wild I wish i had known that I would have asked him about it at the LI show.

As far as your problems with Zee I understand completely. Now that they have moved manufacture off shore It makes my decision a bit easier when I break down and take the plunge. If i buy a VS I will have to piant a Z on top of it so Gunny won't bust my nuggets.
