    Default Dead body at GK

They found a dead body at the bulkhead area around 6:30 this morning. Allegedly on the side of the road, so probably not a fisherman. Could have been dumped there, who knows. Very sad for whoever it is and their family, rip.

Body discovered in Great Kills Park

Fisherman happens upon corpse; cause of death remains unknown

Sunday, May 11, 2008By DOUG AUER

    STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The body of an unidentified man was found yesterday morning inside Gateway National Recreation Area in Great Kills.
A fisherman walking through the park made the unsettling discovery at about 6:15 a.m., according to police

The cause of death is unknown, police added.
The body -- which police said was that of a white or Hispanic male -- carried no identification and had no visible wounds. The body was clothed, and was found lying to the side of the park's gravel path known as Bulkhead Road, close to its entrance on Hylan Boulevard between Keegans Lane and Fieldway Avenue.
Bulkhead Road zigzags through the park, and empties onto Buffalo Street, the main vehicle roadway through the site. People often park their cars along the gravel path and fish in the harbor. The roadway also leads to the park's five baseball fields.

A van from the city Medical Examiner's Office removed the body at about 11:30 a.m. as NYPD detectives and U.S. Park Police investigators combed through the cordoned-off crime scene.
Also on hand were NYPD Crime Scene and Emergency Service units. They were seen sifting through the brush and ground cover with rakes and brooms, searching for evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

The last body discovered inside Gateway National Park was that of Peter Stein, 21, of Yonkers. His body washed ashore adjacent to the main parking lot and was found by two fishermen on Sept. 28, 2002.

Stein had disappeared earlier that week while attempting to swim across the East River.

Police ruled that incident an accident.

Bet that fisherman will never forget that site. Every time he goes fishing he will be looking around.
