NY fishing: NY fishing reports for July 2010
Important when registering on our site -- use an active email address so you can activate your account to be able to post.

Please post fishing reports here.......as little or as much detail as you want to give.

Please note: NO SPOT BURNING! Posts burning spots will be Edited or DELETED!

Some veteran fishermen have put in years developing and learning about certain spots. Some of these spots can only handle a few guys at a time. We are losing enough access as it is, due to the unfortunate behavior of a few selfish people. No sense in making it worse.

For some areas, it would be wiser to say:
OutFront (Ocean) OR -- OutBack (Bay) -- if you feel too many people will figure out what you are talking about. "Spot burning" also could involve mentioning something specific only to that area. If you do this, your post may be edited, or deleted. Remember that thousands of people could potentially read these posts. You don't want to be fishing next to ALL of them at the same time!

IF you are fishing an area that is NOT residential, being vague is less critical. For example, it's acceptable to say (Any)Park, or (Any)Bay, or mention a specific state park that has loads of parking and can handle the crowds.

If you are unclear on this concept, ask yourself:

If I name this place on the internet, will it be too crowded for me to enjoy tomorrow when people hear I got 30 fish here today?

If the answer is "Yes", then you should probably not be so specific.

We post these reports so our community will have a sense of what is working, what is not. We want to show people how to catch fish, rather than where.Even if you struck out or got skunked, it would be helpful to hear that as well.

If you have any additional details you would like to share - weather conditions, tide (incoming, outgoing, ebb, flood) water temps, bait present, or other mention of techniques or plugs used - feel free.

    Default bass are still here

We fished off of Jones for the dawn patrol this morning. 5 bass for 4 of us, to 37#. Live bunker. The bass are still around guys. There was a bunker netter out there, so get your bass before they net up all the bunker.

We went to floyd bennet, and got 2 searobbins and a small striper, put the striper back, they are not many now I think the water needs more small fish for them to eat.

Crosseyed, if you want fluke, small blues, etc, there are places in the bay that will produce from the shore. If you are looking for bigger bass or anything like that, the ocean beaches are a better bet. Things are a little slow. There have been some quick morning blitzes with bunker right in the wash. Night time is good, try the incoming. Hope this helps.

This month we're giving out plugs from Ace Baits, or something similar.

Fished M today, beautiful sunrise. A few small bass on bucks. There was a lot of bird activity a little bit off, and some scattered blitzes just out of reach. All in all a good morning.

    Default big bass still here!

Great morning on my buddys boat. We were outside of JI at 3:30am, found the bunker, got into some quality fish. 3 were over 35lbs, the rest were 20-28 lbs. Great action, we kept 2, action where we were was over by 7. I hope it lasts a little longer.

Fantastic bite yesterday to the w of Jones, we were out in 30' of water hammering the bass that were smashing the bunker. 4 of us got about 20 fish to 31pounds, we kept 4. The best action was from 5-7am, then we had to move a lot to pick one here, 2 there, etc. I love those bunker!

Default good action with taylor blues

I got into some good NS bites with small blues from 6-8, racked up a few by swimming tins. They were pretty aggressive.

    Default montauk

Fished the sand beaches from 4:30 to 7:30 today, there were bluefish in the surf on small bait around 6. It was short lived but I still got 7 on a tin. They were on small bait.

    Default c bass and fluke

Hit some structure out of Jones this morning. It was a little windy, but we still managed a nice limit of fat seabass, and one fluke that was almost a keeper, returned. Good morning on the water.
