Atlantic Highly Migratory Species News
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announces a final rule entitled "Bluefin Tuna Bycatch Reduction in the Gulf of Mexico Pelagic Longline Fishery" which implements a requirement for the use of weak hooks in the Gulf of Mexico pelagic longline fishery to reduce bluefin tuna bycatch and bycatch mortality. The final rule will publish in the Federal Register on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, and will become effective on Thursday, May 5, 2011. The final rule, as filed with the Office of the Federal Register, can be viewed at http://207.245.165.87/federal-register/public-inspection/. NMFS will post the published Federal Register notice on the Highly Migratory Species Management Division website
