Atlantic Highly Migratory Species News
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announces a proposed rule to require all Federally-permitted Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) dealers to report commercially-harvested Atlantic sharks, swordfish, and bigeye, albacore, skipjack, and yellowfin (BAYS) tunas to NMFS through an electronic reporting system. At this time, dealers would not be required to report bluefin tuna through this electronic reporting system as a separate reporting system is currently in place for this species.
Please see the attached HMS News announcement for more information. The proposed rule, Initial Regulatory Flexibility Analysis, and Regulatory Impact Review are also attached to this email. The comment period on the proposed rule closes on August 12, 2011
