Default Connecticut Fishing Reports for July/Aug 2008

Please post fishing reports here.......as little or as much detail as you want to give.

Please note: NO SPOT BURNING! Posts burning spots will be Edited or DELETED!
Some veteran fishermen have put in years developing and learning about certain spots. Some of these spots can only handle a few guys at a time. We are losing enough access as it is, due to the unfortunate behavior of a few selfish people. No sense in making it worse.

"Spot burning" also could involve mentioning something specific only to that area. If you do this, your post may be edited, or deleted. Remember that thousands of people could potentially read these posts. You don't want to be fishing next to ALL of them at the same time!

IF you are fishing an area that is NOT residential, being vague is less critical. For example, it's acceptable to say (Any)Park, or (Any)Bay, (Any)River or mention a specific state park that has loads of parking and can handle the crowds.

If you are unclear on this concept, ask yourself:

If I name this place on the internet, will it be too crowded for me to enjoy tomorrow when people hear I got 30 fish here today?

If the answer is "Yes", then you should probably not be so specific.

We post these reports so our community will have a sense of what is working, what is not. We want to show people how to catch fish, rather than where.Even if you struck out or got skunked, it would be helpful to hear that as well.

If you have any additional details you would like to share - weather conditions, tide (incoming, outgoing, ebb, flood) water temps, bait present, or other mention of techniques or plugs used - feel free, as long as you are not overly specific about location.

    Some acronyms/abbreviations -

    Housy - Housatonic river

    Thames - Thames River

Haven't been fishing for awhile. Decided to give it a go yesterday after work in one of my favorite spots on the Thames. 3 cocktail bluefish on metal, near sunset. no bass.

Near the mouth of the Housy tonight, bunker shad with teaser, 3 bass to 20", and somewhere over 20 snappers on the teaser. All on the incoming, bait jumping out of the water.

    Sunday report, a little late:

Came back from a day trip to CT Sun night. Great fishing, terrible access, boat guys are doing better. They were catching bass all week up to 35lbs, limiting out in a few hours. Tried to set up a boat trip with some people I know, but I didn't give them enough notice, so we fished from shore.

The harbors are filled with adult bunker. I was walking alongside a bulkhead and saw thousands of them. You have to look for them, not everywhere, but there are huge schools.

The bluefish are coming in before sunrise, and in the evenings, and killing the bunker, bluefish up to 14lbs, talked to one guy who got 100 on bunker chunks Thur night.

Also getting them on poppers and swimmers, but most of the people fishing the bulkheads there are using fresh bunker, it's everywhere if you have a snag hook.

Unfortunately, we went when it was low tide, and I couldn't hang till the night time, so yesterday sucked, but I learned a lot anyway.

I also saw spearing that was 6 and 7" long.

The one thing that sucks is you guys have almost no access other than the state parks and some marinas. They really don't like surf fishermen much in Connecticut, do they?

DS, it's not that we don't like fishermen, but out of state fishermen are not really welcomed here. You were fishing near an area I know. The fish have been there, on and off, night time is the right time. The next time you come up, pm me ahead of time, and I'll try to give you some info.

Little personal time on the Thames this morning, 2 bass on a redfin. They were so small I thought they were bluefish, about 12", but at least it was something.
