    Default Baitfish Gallery

This comes from Striper Moon, a site dedicated to cataloging and beautifully photographing different species of baitfish.

The owner running the site is Ken Abrames. Here's some background:

"Striper Moon's the website of author, artist, flyfisherman, guide, and lecturer Ken Abrames. Ken's original thinking is rooted in classic design and technique. His vision is expansive and richly detailed, making our world just a little more like home."

Take a look at his site when you get a chance, or when you find that unusual baitfish that you just can't seem to identify.

    http://www.stripermoon.com/baitfish/index.html#list

Some of the great photography was done by Mark and Carol Archambault, 2 very talented photographers.

I never know what a scad was before today. It seems they have a lot of different variations. did anyone ever see these scad fish mixed in with bait in the NJ or NY area?

VSDreams, I found a few washed up on a beach last year, after what must have been a night feeding frenzy. I think they were round scads, or something like that. Great job on putting this thread up. It's good to see you take the initiative with threads like this. Send me your address and I'll send ya a plug.

I also merged this with an earlier thread started by Joe.

I have been a little pre-occupied with personal issues lately. I wanted to film some baitfish and put up more videos. I hope to get a chance to do that with the clear summer water.

    In the meantime, great job!

Default baitfish id can anyone help?

I was castnetting some bait yesterday, mostly 6" bunker and mullet. There were some striped bait fish on the bottom. They moved quick so I only got one. Does anyone know what this might be? (it is the bottom one in the picture, about 3" long.)

This was in saltwater sportsman. Not all baitfish but pretty interesting to see what some of these huge fish look like in the larval stage

Congrats on the Bass MC, Awesome pics!!!!

I fished last night bayside, 1:30-8:30.
Finally got rid of the skunk (5th time out...).
Caught the top fish at 2:30 on a teaser, then at 3:30 on a 4" plastic plug I caught the short bass. Lost another shortly after on same small plug. Then around 4:30 I got the Fluke on a 5 inch plastic plug. Very nice night and felt great being out there, felt like a miracle to finally get a bend in the rod .
Threw larger stuff, a lot, but nothing.

    Nice job Madcaster & Monty.

Blurry pic doesn't help to id it but I don't see the blue tint found in river herring. Body looks a little big for herring and the river herring are way up the streams right now getting ready to spawn.

Are you familiar with hickory shad Monty?
