Default Earl naval base pier access, etc

Does anyone know anything about being able to fish the Naval Pier during certain days of the year? I heard it's possible to do so.

Do you know anyone who is stationed at that pier, cardoc? Or if they are active service, I think you can get on as their guest. There are quite a few forms to fill out though, they screen pretty thoroughly.
If that doesn't work, they have the tackle the pier tournament at least once a year, where any civilian can get on for a day. Here is the link--

The tackle the pier link doesn't work anymore, but here is the phone # they listed.

I say it's despicable that they put veterans in different categories. If you served your country that should be enough.
