The United States Coast Guard reported that a 55-year-old man died today after losing consciousness aboard a charter fishing boat about three miles off Manasquan Inlet.

The Coast Guard said it received a call at about 12:30 p.m. from a member aboard the 80-foot Jamaica II, who reported that a man aboard the boat had lost consciousness and did not have a pulse.

People aboard the boat had performed CPR while the vessel attempted to make its way back to shore. A rescue crew from the Coast Guard station at Manasquan Inlet launched a boat, met up with the Jamaica II and took the man back to their station while continuing CPR efforts.

The Coast Guard said the man, who they did not identify, was pronounced dead when he was transfered to EMS workers who were waiting on shore. A cause of death was not immediately determined.
