North Carolina Coastal Fisheries Reform Group
Does anyone know about this coastal fisheries reform group? This is the first I heard of them. Are they good or bad for recreational fishing?
North Carolina Coastal Fisheries Reform Group
Tuesday March 31, 2009
An organization in North Carolina calling themselves the Coastal Fisheries Reform Group is seeking to have a bill introduced to the North Carolina legislature that will, if passed, designate seatrout and red drum as game fish and thus remove them from commercial fishing harvest. This might be a double edged sword in that removing these fish from commercial harvest, while really helping these two species, may put more commercial pressure on other species. The very large commercial fishing industry in North Carolina is mostly family owned and goes back several generations. The effect this bill could have on these families could be devastating if it is not handled properly.
