The Garden State Outdoor Sports Show will provide anglers with both entertainment and a chance to take in many seminars when it opens Thursday and runs through Jan. 13 at the Garden State Expo Hall in Raritan Center, Edison.
The extensive seminar schedule includes plenty of interest to saltwater fishermen. Famed angler “Crazy” Alberto Knie will be on stage at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Friday plus 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Capt. Pete Meyers, of Run-Off Lures, presents The Art of Blackfishing at 2 p.m. Thursday and 4:30 p.m. Friday as well as on the weekend at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday. His credentials include a 20-pound, 6-ounce tautog, a mount of which can be seen at the Run-Off booth.
I’ll be presenting seminars next weekend on school tuna and sharking Saturday at 5 p.m., and Raritan Bay stripers at 10 a.m. Sunday. Other speakers include: Capt. Joe Scotti; Capt. Mike Bartlett; “Kayak Fishing” author Jon Shein; Capt. Mike Corbieles of American Fly Fishing Schools; Hackensack Riverkeeper Capt. Bill Sheehan; Anthony Mauro of New Jersey Outdoor Alliance; and Jim Hutchinson Jr. of the RFA.
Show hours are from 1-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, while next weekend’s show times are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15 at the door, but only $10 if purchased online. Children under 11 are admitted free.
