6500 is more a bait reel too heavy for plugging
5500 ssv is ideal size reel just about the same capacity and weight of a 4500 and is also sealed.

fin ...what make a good plugging reel ? is it a bigger spool ?
I currenly have a BG30 and I was looking for a reel with bigger spool and 6 to1
I like the dawia because of the bigger spool .and the 6 to 1 .....but the cost
the only draw back about the penn is that the spool was about the same as the bg30
like on my go to outfit a reel the size of the PennSSV5500 which is Diawa's 4500 and Shimano 8000 or.VS 150 or 200
With briad bigger spool than a Bg30 is not neccessary won't do anything for you but add weight. Big diameter spool and large guides on a rod are old school for Mono do to a=cios braid has no coils
As far as gear ratio for plugging I try not to go over 5 to 1 I just sold a Stella 5000 Sw because it was way to fast. Bass like a slow retrieved lure all these reels with speed are for the California crew.high speed is for jigging. remember the old bass saying for swimmers and needle when you think your going slow ,slow down.
The new Stella SW in the 5000 and 8000 now have a 4.6 to 1 reel for East Coast and peole requiring a reel with torque to put pressue on big fish
Me I fish a Saltiga 4500 which is 4.9 to 1
Vs 100 4.75 to 1 river reel
VS 150. 4.75 to 1
VS 200 4.25 to 1
Cabo 40 back up reel 5 to 1
My connventionals for river and canal are 4.5 to one and 5 to 1
Only one of my tuna jigging reels exceeds 5 to 1
All of these reel in around 32 inches per crank 6 to 1 you will spend allot of time concentrating on slow down and you lose torque.
VS,ZeeBass ,Penn 704 and 706 are all under5 to1 as is your BG30.
Hope this helps you
