Recommend fishing Mid. to lower river. With our past "almost daily" heavyslush from Pineville down and past and present higher water flow levels. Its made if tuff for anglers to fish these areas. Leaving you presently witha lot of uneducated steelhead. Also, due to the above, most anglers havebeen pounding the upper river. Causing the steelhead to become extremelyeducated and more difficult to fool.
The drift boat - wade fishing for steelhead continues to remain excellent for some, ok for others and slow for some-others.
We will continue to see more Steelhead enter, run, spread out and hold in the Salmon River as the season progress's.
Presently, with our past and present higher water flow levels we have received some more fresh Steelhead. Ye-Haa!
We have some more rain in the forecast for Mon. - Tues. So its possible (?)they will continue to run the Salmon River's water flow at a continued highlevel. Starting Wed. we will be back into more normal temps. and we willsee all water levels start to drop, to a more comfortable wade angler level.
Give your favorite fishing buddy a ring. The steelhead (8 to 12 lb. average) are here and just waiting for you.
Standing on Shelf Ice while fishing Warning. Be careful! It might not supportyour body weight. A normal practice when standing on any shelf ice to fishis to MAKE SURE the depth of water below you is no deeper than thigh deep.ALSO, there are NO fast currents underneath you.
Heads UP! - Titanic Iceberg Warning. It's always a fun (?) surprise whenyour fishing and a Titanic Iceberg runs into you. It's even more fun whenyou have a fish on and icebergs are floating close to your mainline in thewater trying to break you off.
We have received more Welcome Snow! This will help with our Spring Waterflow levels when we want colder water and above normal flows to extend yoursteelhead fishing season.
All in all, things are shaping up very nicely for some SUPERB Spring steelhead fishing!

Sorry guys! Something caused some of the above words to run together. I'm sure you'll manage. If not, call me and I'll walk you through it. 1-800-nit-witt

1800-nit-witt I think I might steal that lol!

I bet the salmon river has a ton of slush this year. Was checking out some pics reports and it seems like alaskan weather has moved to the east coast.
-
Yup, tons of slush late Dec. into Jan. with below zero temps. Had to fish up river.
Now, the river is high due to rain on our snow causing flooding. Water Level should drop in a week once we get back to more normal Winter air temps. Best, Randy

Always enjoy your narrative and reports Randy. Were you swimming around in 23 degree water? Sounds like it was not a good day. I am definitely too old for that. Glad you are safe.
-
nice going thank you for sharing your reports.
-
Enjoy your reports Randy. Saw a pic online of guys lined up shoulder to shoulder, not that appealing. Apparently the Pulaski salmon fishing has been good so far in the winter and early this year. I think your method of getting away from the crowd is the way to go.
