The bass season doesn't open till april 15. Been getting some herring near the deepwater docks, usual places. Didn't think they would have stayed around with the cold weather. Maybe the numbers really are up. Good luck fellas.

yeah man, too long! Good luck gents, won't be long now.
I was out yesterday afternoon. Took a couple casts, C&R, testing my new pole. Back of jb. Got a few schoolies throwing an sp around sunset. All quickly released.
SS inlet 7-9. Was a little weedy so I moved to the west near some rocks. Picked up 2 little guys on buck and pork, my old faithful early spring go-to. Good luck out there ladies and gents.
Hit the surf last night, Strong wind at my back. Bucktailed a few tiny runts. Very cold could only handle an hour. First trip of the season for me, felt good to shake the winter cobwebs off.
Fished the css yesterday after work. Started near the beginning of outgoing. A little breezy, I alternated between a hopkins and a bucktail. Caught 2 stripers on the bucktail, one on the hopkins. Fat, short, covered with sea lice. A good start!
Few in the dark this AM. Buck and pork, runts no matter, it was fun. WSS.
Nice! It has been windy, how are you tossing them 4 1/2" hellcats? What do they weigh and how do you get them out there? thanks
They are less than 3/8 oz. First time I have fished them
20 lb leader, 20 lb braid 9 foot rod that handles light plugs well.
Best casts 20-30 yards I am thinking.
Some fish were in real close, I had waded out 20 yards.
Learning a new area, fishing water types that I have not fished often if at all, love the learning process.

Good going fellas. Things really starting to heat up this Spring. Finally
The hellcat is a great profile to mimic shrimp and early season small whitebait, good choice.
Was out there this AM again. Five short Bass largest ~ 24 inches.
1 on bomber, 1 on 4 ?” hellcat, 1 on Hydro Minnow (6:00 AM fish, all other action in dark)and two on loaded small redfin.
Missed a couple hits and I think I lost 1 fish.
Saw no bait. Whatever they are feeding on its small and thin like you mentioned, no action for me on anything of size (darters or metal lips).

Good job. Fished a ss inlet last night. 6-9:30. Little bit of problem withe the weeds so I switched up from bucktail to SP. Got one striper 23 inches and a sea robin. Hit the plug like a striper!
Blues are finally here. Got into them this afternoon, SS inlet on the front. Tins did it for me. Other ppl were using bucktails and chunked bunker. My arms are tired, good tired.
Congrats on the Blues!
I am still in the West Sound, trying to learn the area a bit. This AM trip, murky water.
Three shorts (Lokie SM, Chartreuse Bucktail and rubber on 1/2 jig head). Missed a few hits, lost a fish, all action when current was strongest.

I would pass on the w sound till June when the blues come in and the bass come up the east river from the hudson. There are some nice bass to be had on the SS. Fished last night in the rain, 3 striped bass to 34" on a yellow darter. Bluefish have been running through in the daytime as well. Good luck
Congrats RH they are a lot of fun.
