Default State Record catfish caught in Potomac river

    3/27/08 Fort Washington, MD

    What a catch!

Ron Lewis of Point of Rocks, Md., landed a 67.1-pound blue catfish in the Potomac River Sunday.
"When we brought the catfish alongside the boat we quickly realized that we needed a larger landing net; so we had to haul the fish into the boat by hand," said Lewis.
The big fish, which measured 51 inches long, with a girth of 34.5 inches, set a new state record.
Josh Fitchett set the previous record of 65.5-pound state record in 2006.
"Mr. Lewis's historic catch illustrations Maryland's superb year-round fishing opportunities," said Maryland Department of Natural Resources Secretary John R. Griffin.
Forget mounting this baby, you'll be able to see it. It will be on display at Bass Pro Shops' store in Arundel Mills Mall.
