Another thing to think about....
If you fish current or rips, some of the favorite waters of Rip-Plugger...there is a lot of drag from the current...

As he and others said, you can do it with a spinning setup.
There is a recent emphasis on getting bigger fish with spinning gear, and a lot of guys consider it a badge of honor to bring in a large fish on spinning gear,,,,tuna, large bass, etc....

But if there is a chance you will be releasing the fish..... if you end up in a battle over 5 minutes with the fish, chances are (depending on the water temps) you release that fish, and 1/2 hour later it will be floating dead somewhere....
