Default Striped bass: Atlantic Coast Diadromous Fish Habitat

There is some older research here which supports the migration and possible spawning. On page 262 they talk about the CT rivers. On page 260 they say the biggest % of fry down south comes from the Susquehanna River. Interesting stuff.

That just goes to show you that when they only refer to the Hudson and Chesapeake stocks, there are quite a few populations that are left out of the mix. Thanks for posting.

According to this the fish basically migrate to three different areas. I was trying to decipher why they go to specific areas. It looks like it depends on their size maybe that has to do with the water temperature. Anyone know?

Spawning has to do with water temps.
Size has to do with food sources available. The biggest fish are the ones that have a steady diet of bunker.
WHERE they spawn is related to if they were born there. Fish return to the rivers they were born in. If netters or fishermen take too many out of one population, that single population will suffer more than the others.
